Alfredo Jaar, Muxima (e), 2005, chromogenic print face-mounted on Plexiglas. 15 1/2 x 38 1/2 in., Schwartz Art Collection, Harvard Business School © Alfredo Jaar
This is a photograph from Alfredo Jaar’s work Muxima, which consisted of a film, light boxes, and photographs about Angola. Muxima, which means “heart” in Kimbundu (an indigenous language of Angola), is a cinematic elegy dedicated to the people of Angola. Jaar describes the work as “about a woman named Muxima; about a Church named Muxima; about a popular Angolan song; and about none of the above.”
