American artist Fritz Mayhew has been painting landscapes for over thirty-five years, and is particularly interested in capturing the changing light and mood of a specific time of day and place. He describes this work: "A perfect winter day, late afternoon. The setting sun is coming strongly off the lake, casting long, deep blue shadows on the snow. I wanted to capture the peacefulness and quiet beauty of the moment; the warm, soft light contrasted to the cold sharpness of the snow and shadows."
