Advanced Leadership Pathways: Richard Fahey and Robert Saudek—Lighting Liberia

Abstract
Teaching Note for Case 313-032. After successful careers as lawyers and Fellows in Harvard's Advanced Leadership Initiative, Richard Fahey and Robert Saudek set out to tackle a large-scale infrastructure challenge in a complex environment by ultimately using advanced leadership skills to increase Liberian citizens' access to lighting solutions. They developed the Liberian Energy Network, which aimed to distribute solar light fixtures to citizens across the country, including some of the most remote regions. This case provides an overview of Fahey and Saudek's professional experiences, exploration of the topic, and development/implementation of a lighting distribution program. This case may be used for courses related to social enterprise, change management, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
