Zeynep Ton: The Good Jobs Strategy
By: Francesca Gino and Frances X. Frei
Abstract
The link to this multimedia case should be provided to students in advance as preparation for classroom case discussion.
In Zeynop Ton’s 2014 book The Good Jobs Strategy: How the Smartest Companies Invest in Employees to Lower Costs and Boost Profits, Ton showed how operational excellence enables companies to offer the lowest prices to customers while ensuring good jobs for their employees and delivering results for their investors. In this multimedia case, Ton guides students through the Good Jobs Strategy (GJS). Through various company examples, like Costco, Mercadona and QuikTrip, students are able to analyze the extent to which organizations embrace the GJS and consider the outcome of these applications. The multimedia nature of the case allows students to experience the content surrounding the GJS in a dynamic way and enables instructors to push students hard on notions that are reliant on a deep understanding of the GJS. Students will develop exposure and insights to the GJS, and consider the implications of having a GJS on inclusion in different organizational contexts.
