Description
Professor Coughlan's research in the area of Strategic and Competitive Dynamics applies game theory, industrial organization economics, and laboratory experiments to the investigation of competitive interactions between firms and strategic responses to technological change and other competitive shocks. He is currently researching competitive response to technological change with a game theoretic analysis of backward compatibility decisions and an experimental study of the timing of next generation product introductions. Professor Coughlan also designed and teaches an elective MBA course titled 'Competitive Dynamics: The Rise and Fall of Competitive Advantage' which illustrates strategic, game theory, and industrial organization concepts through applied case studies in various industries and geographic settings.
