Interfirm Alliances as Competitive Weapons
Description
How do alliances affect the evolution of an industry and its constituent firms? Silverman is examining the dynamics of alliance- and patent-based competition in the Canadian biotechnology industry. Recent empirical research focuses on the effect of alliance patterns - by individual firms, their partners, and their rivals - on the founding, growth, and failure rates of biotechnology firms. Much of this research is in collaboration with Joel A. C. Baum (University of Toronto) and Tony Calabrese (University of Toronto).
