Self-Disclosure and the Struggle to Negotiate Identities
Description
Identity negotiation, the set of processes through which group members come to establish their identities within a group, has important implications for group interactions and productivity, particularly for diverse groups. When groups cannot make informed assumptions about the resources brought to the table by their members on the basis of similarity, consequential miscalibration and missed opportunities can result. I am interested in exploring self-disclosure and feedback processes in diverse groups, especially those situational elements that nurture or hinder productive processes, in order to understand how successful identity negotiations can be fostered and used to promote resourceful and integrative group collaboration
