Overview
Description
Dr. Logg studies how people can improve the accuracy of their judgments and decisions. Her main program of work examines when people are most likely to leverage the power of algorithms to improve their accuracy. Research on what she calls “theory of machine” is needed to keep up with the rapid pace of technological advancement that injects algorithms into many aspects of our lives. Her work examines theory of machine (a kind of theory of mind), lay theories about how algorithmic judgment works. It examines people’s perceptions of how algorithmic and human judgment differ, in terms of input, process, and output.
Her other work tests factors that exacerbate overconfidence, people's overly positive beliefs about themselves, and whether unrealistic optimism helps performance as much as people think it does. Her work also tests when cognitive factors and motivational factors play a role in driving overconfidence.
