“Conversations with section mates and professors have enriched my life in more ways than I can count in both professional and personal aspects.”

Coming to HBS is like…

Entering a new world in which the words “not possible” or “no” don’t exist. HBS fosters an environment that constructively challenges my self-imposed limits and assumptions. Conversations with section mates and professors have enriched my life in more ways than I can count in both professional and personal aspects. The HBS experience encourages deep reflection and has allowed me to take early steps at shaping my life post b-school. I am pleasantly surprised by how many takeaways extend to everyday life beyond the walls of a corporate office.

What is your most memorable classroom moment?

Entering Aldrich 10, my first-year classroom where I spend many hours with my section, for the first time was one of my favorite HBS experiences. It felt surreal to step into the hallowed room and see my name tag printed by my assigned seat alongside my 91 section mates. At the time, I couldn’t anticipate how much my initial opinions and viewpoints would change over an 80-minute case discussion.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

One of my favorite childhood memories is going to work with my mother. She worked in the retail industry and introduced me to the business of fashion from an early age. I was her first “intern” and was fascinated to see how CADs on line sheets transformed into garments hanging on the racks of contemporary sales floors in NYC department stores.

What is the best thing about your home town?

I was born and raised in the best city in the world, New York City! NYC is a microcosm of the world. One of my favorite things about the five boroughs is its diversity. The city offers rich exposure to many types of people, cultures, foods, museums, and environments that shaped my outlook on life. A new adventure filled with exciting sights, stories, and cuisine was just a short train ride away.

What has changed about your understanding of leadership?

My understanding of leadership was one-dimensional before coming to HBS. I thought of leadership in the formal sense of someone with a big title holding a position of authority over a group to achieve a desired outcome. Over the past seven months, I’ve grown to understand that leadership is much more nuanced. Case discussions have proven that leadership is dictated by many factors, including personal values, lived experiences, self-awareness, and situational context. Good leadership can change the course of an organization or situation and has the power to improve the lives of both employees and customers. Lastly, there is no singular blueprint for being an excellent leader. Each person expresses leadership in their own way.
