“While I expected to learn how to think about my career at HBS, I loved how we also brought so many of the other things that matter in our lives into the discussion.”

Coming to HBS is like...

Drinking water out of a fire hose! Everything being thrown at you in the beginning is amazing – new friends, interesting cases, fun trips – but it all happens at a breakneck pace.

What is your most memorable classroom moment?

First semester, we had a great case about a female partner at a consulting firm trying to navigate her very successful career alongside equally demanding personal commitments. The conversation we had in class, and for many days after, was one of my favorites because while I expected to learn how to think about my career at HBS, I loved how we also brought so many of the other things that matter in our lives into the discussion.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

My family’s annual camping trips. Every Memorial Day Weekend for almost 10 years without fail, we would go camping with a group of our family friends. Maybe it’s because I’m an only child, but the time I got to spend running around exploring with my friends, making s’mores by the campfire, and staying up late telling stories was a highlight of my childhood.

What is the best thing about your home town?

All the parks! We have over 50 parks in my tiny suburb of a hometown and in the summer, there’d be a different music or art festival happening every weekend, so I remember very fondly the time I spent laying on picnic blankets in the sunshine.

What has changed about your understanding of leadership?

There isn’t one right way to be a leader. Coming into school, I thought there were clear-cut ways to be an effective or ineffective, good or bad leader but I’ve learned that there is no “one size fits all” approach to leadership. Every team and organization operates differently, and, in my opinion, one of the marks of a good leader is being able to both identify and provide what every individual, team, or org needs to succeed.
