Section D Admissions Rep

“As I take my seat and when class is about to start, I can’t help but take a deep breath and think to myself: this is amazing.”

Coming to HBS is like...

A dream that I thought was never going to happen. Coming to class is one of the most precious gifts I get every morning. Rushing past my section mates as I take my seat and when class is about to start, I can’t help but take a deep breath and think to myself: this is amazing.

What is your most memorable classroom moment?

It was when Professor Ting, my LEAD professor, said to our section: “in a moment we will have Jackie Hu, the protagonist of the case, come to our section to talk about what she has been through.” This was the first case protagonist to visit our classroom. The conversation was interactive, engaging, and full of energy.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

When I was six years old, my dad came from work one day and told me and my siblings that he had a surprise for us. He told us to go to the garden and wait there. As we went, he went back to the garage and came back with a big box. He placed it on the grass and out rushed our first puppy, a golden labrador.

What is the best thing about your hometown?

I love its colonial downtown. It is very picturesque, full of bright, yellow, and pink colors. When I am there, I feel like spring is eternal. In my hometown, sunlight continuously hits every church building that is located downtown every day until 7 pm, even during winter months. In addition, the culinary and cultural scene is very representative of my Mexican heritage.

What has changed about your understanding of leadership?

I learned that great leaders are just as good at listening as at talking. Being able to actively listen takes intentionality and practice; it is about purpose, serving, and not imposing. It is within that spirit of servitude that arrogance does not fit.
