“Coming to HBS is like being part of a large community trying to solve a never-ending brain teaser.”

Coming to HBS is like...

Being part of a large community trying to solve a never-ending brain teaser that makes us reevaluate our approach to problem solving. Every class is a new challenge that leaves you feeling like a bewildered squirrel trying to navigate a maze. It's the best mental gymnastics game that keeps you on your toes (or on your head, in some cases). And nothing feels more rewarding than facing these challenges and learning how to tackle them.

What is your most memorable classroom moment?

During one of our classes in the first semester, we were tasked with writing a 10-year reunion memo envisioning how our lives have been since we graduated from HBS. As we read our reflections aloud in the classroom, emotions ran high. I especially remember our final classmate's words that truly moved us. He spoke about spending the last ten years striving to emulate each of our admirable traits and how he felt blessed to have 92 role models; this moment solidified the sense of community and camaraderie we share as a section.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

One of my favorite childhood memories involves my siblings, cousins, and I visiting my grandfather at the family business's factory for the first time. Growing up in a different city in Saudi Arabia meant that I hadn't had many opportunities to witness the inner workings of our family's business. But that day was different – it was like a scene straight out of a movie. Seeing the roots of my family's success was a truly unforgettable experience.

What is the best thing about your hometown?

Although I've moved around quite a bit in my life, I'll always consider Saudi Arabia to be my true home. Sure, the 40-degree Celsius summers can be rough, but there's so much to love about where I come from. The best thing about it is the remarkable growth that the country has experienced in recent years. There is something for everyone. Ancient historical sites like AlUla to visit, new futuristic cities like NEOM being built, and world class events like Formula 1 Grand Prix to attend.

What has changed about your understanding of leadership?

I wouldn't say that my perspective on leadership has necessarily changed – rather, it has developed and evolved in a positive direction. One important insight I've gained is that a key pillar of effective leadership is optimizing for the team and its individual members. This involves carefully considering the unique needs and aspirations of each team member and adapting one’s leadership style to ensure that everyone is working collaboratively towards a shared goal.
