I was familiar with the theory of leadership, and I also had many years of teaching experience on this subject, but finding an effective way of helping students learn and improve the skills of leadership in the class were still quite tough for me. There are several ways to switch careers, such as directly changing jobs or pursuing another advanced degree in a new field. Among the choices, an MBA is not a typical option for people with a technical background.
