Since emigrating from Syria at the age of five, I have personally experienced the uphill battle of obtaining health care coverage as a non-US citizen. My family, along with many other immigrant and low-income families, are often forced to choose between receiving care and prescription medicines or paying a stream of medical bills. My aversion to health care growing up, juxtaposed by the cost-free, quality care I received later in life as a US citizen, is why I want to work towards improving the health care system. [...]
Harvard’s new MS/MBA Biotechnology: Life Sciences joint degree program confers an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Master of Science from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Harvard Medical School in the Harvard Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology (SCRB), a Faculty of Arts and Sciences/Harvard Medical School joint department. A couple years later when I was ready to apply to grad school, I once again did a search for any MS/MBA programs. To my surprise, I landed on the new HBS MS/MBA Biotechnology: Life Sciences website. I read every word about the program and was absolutely thrilled. I couldn’t have hand crafted a more perfect program. Its mission is to cultivate leaders who can assess potential therapeutic value, create sustainable business models, and understand the ethical implications of novel therapeutics or policies. With an increasing interest in health care and technology, more and more students are moving into the health care space. The Health Care Initiative at HBS started with a few students petitioning the Dean with new elective ideas and has since become a robust ecosystem for anyone in the industry that is interested in revolutionizing the space.
